Teeth grinding (bruxism) means clenching or grinding the teeth, and it often happens during sleep without the person realising. Common signs include jaw muscle pain or fatigue, headaches on waking, and worn teeth.

In selected cases, botulinum toxin may be injected into the chewing muscles to reduce the strength of their contraction, which may help ease discomfort associated with grinding. Studies show promising results for some patients, but the evidence is still not conclusive, and this is an off-label use of the product.

Botox is not a replacement for a dental assessment or a night guard where one is needed, and it may form part of a broader plan.

Your appointment includes an assessment of your symptoms, jaw movement, and health history, along with a discussion of the available options. If treatment is suitable, we explain the plan and what to expect before starting.

Improvement varies between individuals. The effect of the injections is temporary and requires follow-up based on your assessment.
